Basseterre, St. Kitts, February 27, 2018 (RSCNPF):  A three-day IMPACT Justice Workshop being hosted specifically for the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) began at the Police Training Complex on Monday, February 26, 2018. Thirty-four Police Officers from various departments are attending.  The Workshop is covering report writing, interviewing and interrogation techniques and the law of evidence.

The facilitators are drawn from BAH Consulting that specialises in crime and security management, law enforcement, criminal justice, criminology, modern penal thought and penal practice.  One of the two facilitators is Bertie A. Hinds who is the Founder and Managing Director of BAH Consulting. He served as the Deputy Director of the Regional Security System (RSS) from 2014 to 2016 and is a Retired Deputy Commissioner of Police of the Royal Barbados Police Force.  The second facilitator is Tyrone Sargeant who retired from the Royal Barbados Police Force as a Senior Superintendent of Police and Divisional Commander.

Addressing the participants, Retired Deputy Commissioner Hinds said that at all levels of Caribbean society there was a concern about the state of crime and criminality.

“This training is timely. Good investigative know-how leads to success in finding and prosecuting criminal perpetrators,” Hinds explained.

Commissioner of Police, Ian Queeley, attested to what Deputy Commissioner of Police (Ret.) Hinds imparted. He spoke of the significance of having a high detection rate and added that it was one of the better ways to deter crime. He encouraged the officers to be attentive and to get as much as possible out of the workshop as the skills they would learn were critical to the work of the RSCNPF.

The workshop is being hosted by IMPACT Justice (Improved Access Justice in the Caribbean) which is a five year regional justice sector reform project funded by the Government of Canada.  It is being implemented from within the Caribbean Law Institute Centre, Faculty of Law, The University of the West Indies (UWI), Cave Hill Campus.
