Minister with responsibility for Housing, the Honourable Eugene Hamilton, expressed that the ministry has once again fulfilled a promise to this community with the delivery of a brand new sewage plant.

“It is indeed an honour to be a part of today’s turning on of these new facilities. Today is another significant day not only for those who live here but also for those of us who are concerned about our environment and the environment that was being damaged by what is taking place here,” he said.

He added special thanks to the Board of Directors at the National Housing Corporation (NHC), persons on the ground who worked tirelessly on the project, the homeowners for their patience, the employees of Parks and Beaches and ChemTron.

“NHC and the ministry are concerned about health and the environment. We have been paying special attention to health issues and the environment, and today is one more step by the Unity Government to deliver what the people have voted us in to deliver,” he stated.

Gardens Resident, Valencia, expressed that she is very pleased with the work done by the National Housing Cooperation (NHC) on this new facility. She explained that this will be a relief to not only herself but other residents who dealt with the overflowing and odour from the previous sewage plant for some time.

“I am so pleased and proud of what NHC has done because the condition was very bad, but now that NHC has stepped up its game and taken lead, I am so proud,” she stated.

Chemical and Electronic company, ChemTron, based in Jamaica, was solicited to appraise and recommend changes and replacements for a better sewage plant. The end result was a fully renovated plant with a coarse bubble aeration system, added chemicals to aid in the breakdown of waste, and a chlorination system that filters the water into the sea.
