Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 22, 2018 (SKNIS): The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis under the leadership of Prime Minister, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, has made significant strides over the past three years and will continue to ensure that the people of the Federation could be proud of the continued progress, said the Honourable Vincent Byron, Attorney General.

This was expressed at the Prime Minister’s Open Forum on Sunday, May 20, at the Edgar T. Morris Primary School in Tabernacle, which marked the continuation of the Team Unity Administration’s Good Governance and Prosperity Agenda.

“For three years we have fulfilled our promises. We have fulfilled our promises in our prosperity agenda – no VAT on food, no VAT on funeral expenses, and no VAT on medicine. We had promised the sugar cane workers that you would get your pay and over 2000 people received 16 million dollars,” said the attorney general, adding that the Team Unity Administration has and will continue to fulfill the promises made. “We also addressed and are addressing our good governance agenda. We have introduced the Tenure of Office of Prime Minister Bill; we have introduced Freedom of Information and we brought Data Protection with it. And we will also introduce Integrity in Public Life in weeks. So we are fulfilling our mandate, our promise, because we put the framework in place, the structure for our country to continue to grow and to be the best small island state.”

Minister Byron said that the Forum provided an avenue for the general public to be duly informed on the country’s progress since February 16, 2015.

“You will hear of what we have done and what we are doing right now to make your lives better; to give you jobs, to put more money in your pockets. We will hear about how you have more access to housing, to building your own home, and to give your children scholarships to get good jobs to have money in your pockets,” he said. “We will be reporting to you on how this country has moved forward, will move forward, is moving forward to greater and greater heights. This has come about because with the leadership of Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, our prime minister, we have been able to put together a Team Unity movement that answered a big void in our country.”

The attorney general reiterated that good governance has always been a priority for the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis as it was important to restore democracy in the Federation and implement a prosperity agenda.
