Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 04, 2018 (SKNIS): The formal meeting of the Cabinet took place on Monday, May 28, 2018. The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris. Here are the salient matters that were discussed and the decisions taken that are designed to advance the growth and development of the country:

  • Cabinet was updated by the Chair and Minister of National Security, Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, on the National Defence Council Meeting, which was held in Nevis on Saturday 26th May. The members were informed of the crime statistics and the security strategies employed to keep citizens, residents and the country as a whole safe, which were presented to the Chair at that meeting.

  • Cabinet approved the recommendations for a Property Tax Amnesty to be effected from June 01, 2018, for an initial period of one month and urges all taxpayers in arrears to take note and observe the limited time to make a settlement.

  • Cabinet discussed the upcoming St. Kitts Music Festival and the Chair of the music festival was permitted to share the innovations for this year’s festival with the Cabinet so that members could get an understanding of the changes to be implemented.
  • The Cabinet received an update from the Board of the Cable on the present position of the company and the way forward as the board would wish to see the company make progress.
  • Cabinet approved licences for marriage officers. The marriage officers are James Nisbett of the Charlestown Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Nevis; Cloesta Tyson of the International Deliverance Center in St. Kitts; and Oral Brandy of the First Baptist Church in Nevis.
  • Cabinet approved submissions, which would redound to the economic benefit of citizens and assist in further developing capacity within the private sector.
