Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 28, 2017 (SKNIS): Through the collaboration of the Team Unity Government and the National Housing Corporation (NHC) under the Unity Housing Solutions Programme, 16 families from Constituency #2 now have a place to call home.
At the handing over ceremony held today (August 28) at Pine Gardens, Shadwell, a mix of young and old families received the keys to their brand-new homes. While speaking at the handing over ceremony, Minister of Human Settlement, the Honourable Eugene Hamilton, said that he is pleased to congratulate the families that received their keys for being qualified and chosen under the housing programme.
“Today, we are here to celebrate with some homeowners. I say celebrate because I know some of you have been waiting for a long time. Today, 16 families will benefit from what we are doing around here and I want to congratulate them on being selected, being chosen and qualified to become home owners under the Team Unity Housing Programme,” said Minister Hamilton, as he congratulated the new home owners for reaching to this point where they can live comfortably in a home with their families.
He also said that government has a mission to ensure that ordinary persons benefit from being able to own homes. He encouraged the new home owners to take responsibility for what they have been given and to raise their standard of living along with their children’s standards to create a better and brighter future for the upcoming generations.
“I want to encourage all of you that are getting homes today to join the Team Unity and NHC Family in putting God first in everything that you do. I am telling you today that your responsibility is to search for wisdom in your homes and it will help you to make the right decisions,” he stated.
Minister Hamilton also announced that various housing developments in Wellington Road, Conaree, Crab Hill, Conyers, Challengers, and Douglas Estate, and others will soon commence and be completed within 15 months making way for many more key handing over ceremonies in the near future.
Representative for Constituency #2, Ambassador Jonel Powell, said that he is pleased that the 16 deserving families awarded keys today are just some of the many who will benefit in the future.
“It is particularly pleasing for me to be here this morning and participate in this handing over ceremony because we are not giving you a house because you have to pay for it but what we are giving you is an opportunity to raise the standard of your living and an opportunity to own a part of this rock where you are from,” he said, while further noting that these homes will provide a safe haven for the families.
