PM HARRIS COMMENDS THE NEVIS ELECTORATE  AND LOOKS FORWARD TO CONTINUING PROGRESS IN NEVIS

Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 29, 2018 (SKNIS): The formal meetings of the Cabinet took place on Monday, August 20, and Friday, August 24, 2018. The meetings were chaired by Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris. Here are the salient matters that were discussed at those meetings:

•    Cabinet was brought up to date on the social assistance programme and the arrangements that were made to extend the programme to the sister island of Nevis. The figures were shared with the Cabinet as to the number of completed forms that were collected, and that the data processing and verification will start from the following week after the Nevis data had been collected
•    The Cabinet was brought up to date with regards to the police investigations into the homicides of the two police sergeants. It was noted that there were some credible leads that were being vigorously pursued.
•    The Minister of Aviation and the Minister of Tourism updated the Cabinet on the possibility of additional airlift at the Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw (RLB) International Airport starting September 1, 2018.
•    Cabinet was very heartened by the delivery of the Unity Housing Solutions Programme in Constituencies Numbers Seven and Three and made a further commitment to deliver in the other constituencies within the shortest possible time. In this regard, efforts are being made to relocate families living in the Wellington Road area in Basseterre so that the new Wellington Housing Project could commence.
•    Cabinet was advised of a new airline commencing service out of the US Mid-west to the Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw (RLB) International Airport.
•    Cabinet is considering a new health care facility proposed to commence before the end of this year (2018).
•    Just under 100 students have been approved by Cabinet to pursue various disciplines at tertiary educational institutions overseas made possible through scholarships, bursaries, and general assistance.
•    Cabinet was presented on August 27, 2018, with a draft proposal for a monetary award to nurses who give exemplary service each month.
•    Cabinet approved a number of submissions to assist citizens and to facilitate businesses in areas of various trading endeavours.
•    Cabinet passed a resolution to provide additional services for prisoners, which would assist in the rehabilitation process.
•    Cabinet was also advised that the members of the Integrity Commission had been sworn in at a short ceremony at Government House on Monday, August 27, 2018.
•    Cabinet was brought up to date on the progress of the activities in celebration of the 35th anniversary of Independence.
