Over 1,000 primary and secondary school students are expected to be members of JA St. Kitts-Nevis.

John, who is also the Executive Director of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce was speaking at the Friday, 21st September re-launch of the JA St. Kitts-Nevis, at the Ocean Terrace Inn.

Speaking to an audience of specially invited guests and sponsors, (including the country’s Governor General, Sir Tapley Seaton), John said the success of Junior Achievers is found in the ability to bring Private Sector partners and teacher-volunteers on board.

In this regard, John praised one of the Private Sector stakeholders, ICWI, which stepped forward on Friday and committed itself to sponsorship in 2018, with a $13,500 cheque to be applied to the programs and activities of JA St. Kitts-Nevis.

This year the ICWI is focusing its support in the area of technology development among the students who will be participating in the program.

The Insurance Company of the West Indies (ICWI) has been supporting Junior achievers programs across the region for over six years, said ICWI Vice President of Marketing and Human Resources, Samantha Samuda, who spoke of her company’s commitment to innovation and the role technology plays in that regard.

Samuda stated, “ICWI has innovation at its very core. Innovation, not only in our products and our services, but also in the technology that we utilize to make doing business with us easier for all of our clients. So, we are all very aware that technology is the way of the future, and it has been growing at an exponential speed. We see it in our daily life and we see it with our children.”

She made these remarks relevant to a technology based competition to be rolled out for primary schools.

The event also included speakers Alphie Mullings-Aiken, who presented a message from JA Americas, Permanent Secretary Vincent Hodge of the Ministry of Education and JA St. Kitts-Nevis Board Vice Chairman Chris Ghita.

Meanwhile, Samuda believes there is room for other corporate entities to get involved here in St. Kitts and Nevis.

She said, “I encourage corporate companies to take part, to give back to communities and to help the children. We each have our role to play in the development of children. Indeed, we are very proud of the opportunity to do so here in St. Kitts and Nevis.”

ICWI, which is this year celebrating 50 years as a full service general insurance company, is operating in eight Caribbean countries covering over 100,000 clients.
