Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 17, 2018 (SKNIS): The St. Kitts and Nevis Sugar Mas 47 will not only feature popular events such as beauty pageants and calypso shows, but activities that cater to all groups in society.

Speaking on Wednesday’s (October 17) edition of “Working for You,” Noah Mills, Chairman of the St. Kitts and Nevis National Carnival Committee (SKNNCC) highlighted some of the fringe activities that will be taking place.

“When we say fringe activities, they make up a very important part of Carnival because there are different demographics, there are different psychographics, and there are different behavioural attributes that will define a population,” he said, noting that persons may attend activities depending on their age.

“So Carnival has to be a balance of these activities where the majority of the younger generation who would want to go to the Wet Fete and who would want to go to the Powder Fete and Flag Fete and all of the other fetes like the Cooler Fete and Inception—so those are growing and we welcome them,” said the chairman.

Events such as Inception and Cooler Fete are just two of the usual events that will take place for this year’s Carnival, said Mr. Mills. Also coming back are the Flag and Wet Fetes. Joining the festivities last year was the Glow Parade. The chairman said that persons can expect some surprises and new events during the season.

Some new and innovative fetes will also be introduced to the list of carnival activities, said Mr. Mills.

“For example, I heard that there is one called the silent fete. When I saw that first I wondered what in the world could be a silent fete. Apparently it’s a concept where let’s say 1000 headphones will be provided to the party goers and you would wear the head phones and you listen to the DJs and you dance and everything else. When we feel like talking we take off the headphones and we discuss. I heard it’s  hot in Antigua and other parts of the Caribbean and it’s going to be introduced here. So I actually welcome that,” he said.

The Haynes Smith Caribbean Talented Teen is also slated on the calendar of activities.

There was a hiatus last year from Party Central on Bank Street, said the chairman, noting that there is “a new entity taking over that line of entertainment which would run for about three weeks as well because after the shows, persons would like to go somewhere to hang out. So that is scheduled to go on Bank Street.”
