BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, October 23, 2018 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris is representing the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis at the Sixty-Sixth Meeting of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Authority being held at the Beachcomber Resort, in Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines today, Tuesday, October 23, 2018.
The meeting is being chaired by Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the Honourable Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, who is the current chair of the Authority.
During the one-day meeting, the OECS Heads are discussing a number of matters that are critically important to the sub-region, such as the establishment of a diplomatic presence in Canada; OECS membership in the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the new Andean Development Bank, as well as the establishment of a fourth University of the West Indies (UWI) Campus in Antigua and Barbuda and its implications for OECS Member States.
A presentation on Climate Smart and Investment-Ready Opportunities in the OECS is also expected to take place during this one-day meeting.
Additionally, the OECS Authority will consider a number of reports, including the OECS Commission’s End of Financial Year Report, the Annual Report of the OECS Assembly for the Financial Year 2017/2018 and the Reports of the Council of Ministers for Social Development; Foreign Affairs; Environmental Sustainability, and Tourism.
The OECS Authority is the highest decision-making body of the OECS and comprises the Heads of Government whose decisions direct the work of the august body.
Prime Minister Harris is accompanied by His Excellency Ambassador Sydney Osborne, who is St. Kitts and Nevis’ OECS Commissioner.
