BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, November 12, 2018 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – Activities to commemorate 25 years of dedicated service to the people by Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris got underway on Sunday (November 11) with a spirited and well-attended service at the House of Deliverance New Testament Church of God on Main Street in Tabernacle.
Sunday’s church service formed part of the larger calendar of events organized by a Planning Committee for the 25th Anniversary Celebrations. It was attended by a wide cross-section of specially invited guests including members of the Cabinet; senior government officials; members of the consular and diplomatic corps; and residents from throughout the length and breadth of Constituency #7.
The special thanksgiving service was led by Senior Pastor Octavia Charles-Warner, who commended the Honourable Prime Minister and the organizing committee for opening the anniversary celebrations by invoking God’s blessing. The service also featured poem renditions, a dance recital and presentations to Dr. Harris in honour of his 25 years as the Parliamentary Representative for Constituency #7 (Belle Vue to Ottley’s).
While addressing the congregation, Prime Minister Harris said after spending the last 25 years of his life rendering service to the people of Constituency #7, and by extension the entire Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, he remains humbled by the outpouring of support he continues to receive.
“It truly has been 25 years of work, 25 years of good times and bad times. My deepest inspiration has always come from the people who have never let me down…and I say thank you to the wonderful people of [Constituency] #7 who placed their trust in me time after time; again and again you have returned me as your beloved Member for Parliament for St. Christopher Seven,” Dr. Harris said to thunderous rounds of applause from those in attendance.
The Honourable Prime Minister reminisced on the days leading up to the general elections of 1993 and noted that it was the strong call from the people that ultimately lured him from becoming a tenured track professor at the University of the West Indies (UWI) to becoming the people’s choice as the Parliamentary Representative for Constituency #7.
Prime Minister Harris said in 1993, 1995, 2000, 2004, 2010 and again in 2015, “The good people of #7 always gave me the strongest support. So today, as we look back and look forward I want to say a tremendous thank you to all of you who have been with me in the beginning. All of you who came to give me your support – because through the years I would have earned that support – from the bottom of my heart I say thank you very much,” Prime Minister Harris added.
Activities to commemorate Dr. Harris’ 25 years of service as a Parliamentarian continue on Tuesday (November 13) with a Constituency Walk-through and Greetings in Phillip’s Village.
Other planned events for this week include a 25th Anniversary Radio Dialogue on Frank and Candid on ZIZ Radio on Thursday (November 15), a house handing-over ceremony at Molineux Extension on Friday (November 16) and the Prime Minister’s Legacy Walk throughout Constituency #7 on Saturday (November 17).
