Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 12, 2018 (SKNIS): The future of tourism is in the hands of our youth says Saju Ng’alla, Public Relations Officer, at the St. Kitts Tourism Authority. As such, the Ministry of Tourism, will be hosting a series of talks in schools from November 12 to 15 as part of Tourism Awareness Month 2018.

According to Mr. Ng’alla, the talks are aimed at teaching young persons about the importance of tourism, adding that tourism is everybody’s business and the youth must not be excluded.

These sentiments were shared by the Minister of Tourism, the Honourable Lindsey Grant, at the launch of Tourism Awareness Month on November 01, 2018.

“Throughout this month a variety of events and activities will highlight the fact that tourism is indeed everybody’s business, and we all have a role to play to better understand, support, and protect this industry as one of the key drivers of our economy,” he said.

Mr. Ng’alla said that the talks are an extremely important element to the month to show that every resident on the island, no matter their age, can contribute to the tourism product.

“Whether you smile, say good morning, or keep your surroundings clean, your actions impact tourism and it is important that we get the message across especially to the kids, that yes, even you have the power to impact our tourism product,” he said.

Different stakeholders in the tourism industry will be traversing to the schools to share how tourism has impacted them and how the students can make their mark on the tourism product.

Tourism month is being celebrated under the theme “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: Let’s Work Together for a Greener Future.”

Other upcoming youth activities include the Primary School Tourism Quiz on November 16 and the Department of Youth High School Chef Competition on November 22. Young persons are also encouraged to participate in the Keep St. Kitts Clean Photo Contest being held from November 01 to 24.
