Today’s opening of the East Line Bus Terminal on Wellington Road in Basseterre represents another meaningful step forward on the eventful journey that Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris and his Cabinet colleagues have embarked upon to connect the people of St. Kitts and Nevis to economic opportunities – economic opportunities that are flourishing under their leadership and stewardship of the country.

Since February 2015, Prime Minister Harris’ administration has been working determinedly to shape the future of the country’s development and create opportunities for all.

“Our substantial and sustained investments in projects such as this brand-new East Line Bus Terminal and the much-improved Basseterre Ferry Terminal, which officially opened last December, as well as the US$48-million second cruise pier that is under construction, reflect our recognition that two of the most critical links to achieving these priorities are urban infrastructure and transportation,” Prime Minister Harris said today.  There are also plans to develop a West Line Bus Terminal in the near future.

Over 40 buses serve the East Line route that spans from Dieppe Bay to Basseterre via Cayon.  “The bus network, in general, serves as a veritable economic bridge connecting many of our people with jobs and other opportunities,” Prime Minister Harris also said today, adding, “In accordance with our Prosperity Agenda, we have taken an important step by modernizing our bus network and relieving the street congestion that had long marred the East Line Bus Terminal’s inefficient and outdated precursor.  This translates into improved safety and productivity.”

The Team Unity Government’s Prosperity Agenda has led to the highest annual wage bill, the most business licenses issued in a year, and the largest numbers of jobs, workers and Social Security contributors in the first three years of Prime Minister Harris’ administration.

The brand-new East Line Bus Terminal will be officially opened today, Tuesday, December 11th, 2018, at 4:30pm.  The opening ceremony will be aired live on ZIZ Radio (95.9, 96.1, 96.3 or 96.9 FM), ZIZ TV (Channel 5) and ZIZ’s website (https://zizonline.com/tv/channel-5/).

This afternoon, Prime Minister Harris will participate in the ribbon cutting ceremony and be a part of the official tour delegation at the East Line Bus Terminal.

The new terminal has ample benches to accommodate seating for approximately 130 bus commuters, as well as bathroom facilities and several commercial spaces including a barbershop, among other amenities.
