Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 21, 2018 (SKNIS): Senior Minister and Minister of Labour, Ecclesiastical Affairs and Social Security, the Honourable Vance Amory, lauded the employees in his ministry for their exemplary work throughout 2018 at the 2nd Annual Staff Appreciation Awards Ceremony held on December 21, at the Solid Waste Management Corporation Conference Room.

“Today we are here to thank all of you, especially the Department of Labour, because you are in the firing line and at the forefront of what we do as a ministry. I want to thank all of you for your effort throughout the past year and for your dedication, loyalty and commitment,” said Minster Amory.
He noted that emotional intelligence speaks to the success of organizations because it is fundamentally rooted in how an organization treats its employees.

“There are things which happen within an organization and among people which could either make or break an organization and sometimes we do not pay attention to those things, said Minister Amory, while adding that “as one who have worked with people most of my life, I value recognizing people.”

He also stated that the appreciation of the human element within an organization can make a substantial difference in the output of the employees and noted that since he took office in 2015, the focus has been to give the ministry a new image to elevate it to a higher standard.

“I think over the last couple years, we have in fact managed to gain that recognition by the work which you as the Department of Labour staff does and the way that you have responded to the call to elevate the image of the department and the ministry,” he stated.

Minister Amory encouraged the staff to keep a positive attitude inside and outside of the work place because it makes a difference.
The presentation of awards for 2018 included most outstanding units, leadership, administrative support, auxiliary staff and most outstanding unit officers’ awards.
