Special Olympics St Kitts and Nevis announces the full delegation of athletes, coaches and officials to represent the Federation at the upcoming Special Olympics World Games to be held in Abu Dhabi, UAE 15-21 March, 2019. The delegation will be made up of thirteen athletes, six coaches, a medical staff and three officials.
The coaches have had most of our athletes in training for the past eighteen months. The aim is to ensure that each athlete that is training in preparation realized their dream of participating and to proudly represent the Federation on the world stage.
At the last World Games held in Los Angeles USA in 2015, our athletes were very successful. Seventeen (17) of our athletes participated and returned home with twenty three (23) medals including thirteen (13) gold. This time around the team is just as keen and looking forward to performing just as well. Our athletes will compete in six (6) sports: athletics, bocce, cycling, swimming, tennisand triathlon. .
Special Olympics is a global organization serving more than 3.9 million athletes in 170 nations. Special Olympics St Kitts and Nevis has been a proud member since 1983. Our organization exists to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic type sports to children and adults with intellectual and physical disabilities. These activities give them continued opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship.
Special Olympics take this opportunity to thank the Ministry of Sports (St Kitts and Nevis) and the companies who have stepped forward to date with contributions to our “Road to Abu Dhabi”Fund Raising Campaign. The Special Olympics Board continue to appeal for other local businesses and individuals to contribute to this cause and help our athletes go for the Gold.
