Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 05, 2019 (SKNIS):Members of the St. Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Services (SKNFRS) will be kept busy in 2019 enhancing their knowledge and sharpening their skills as a robust training schedule is rolled out.
The first in the training schedule began on Monday, March 04, 2019, with the launch of a five-day Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Introduction Training Course. Fire Station Officer (FSO) Garfield Hodge coordinates the Training and Development Team that created the course plan. The 18 participants on the course will explore several topics designed to educate and enhance aerodrome fire fighting skills.
FSO Hodge said this is the first of many training sessions as reflected in this year’s SKNFRS action plan.
“A number of other courses are planned and scheduled for 2019, which include urban and land search and rescue; fist aid; hazmat awareness training, and leadership training for frontline and middle managers,” he said.
Fire Chief Everette O’Garro credited FSO Hodge and the senior ranks for establishing the training programme.
“I want to commend my Training and Development Team for the solid work it has been doing in making sure that our staff is equipped with the requisite skills and knowledge needed for the critical job they have to perform on a daily basis,” Chief O’Garro said.
He encouraged the fire officers to “soak up as much information as they could” noting that it will redound to their professional and personal development.
