Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 08, 2019 (SKNIS): Clifford Govia, Force Personnel Officer, highlighted the value of the March 04-08, 2019, Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Introduction Training Course #1 and commended the eighteen (18) officers within the St. Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Services (SKNFRS) who participated.

“The Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Course is a critical course if we are to keep the airport alive. Many of you have demonstrated clearly that you have developed the skills to go on and we want to commend those who would have been successful because you are going to make a difference in the life of the airport, said Mr. Govia at the closing ceremony on Friday, March 08 at the R. L. B. International Airport Fire Hall.

In addressing the officers, he said “I know sometimes that you forget… I always have to reinforce the fact that there isn’t a more important job than protecting lives and property. We are asking you to continue to participate in these types of courses,” he added, thanking them for choosing to participate in “such a worthwhile venture.”

He emphasized that training is important for the start and mastering the skills as they go along.

“I want to remind you that the only way to develop your skills, the only way to really become a master at what you do is to get ready. You have to read, put in the effort… and familiarize yourself so that at the end of the day, St. Kitts, we are able to say that we have officers well-trained and ready to ensure the safety of these aircrafts,” stated the force personnel officer.

The training was in keeping with the proactive programming of the SKNFRS, as the main agency in providing fire protection, safety and rescue operations, for all passengers and operators of aircrafts.

Several participants will journey to Canada to complete a one-week course in the near future. The course in Canada will delve deeper into the aircraft rescue and firefighting training course.
