BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, March 12, 2019 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – A second batch of small local contractors is set to benefit from one of the largest public infrastructure project in St. Kitts and Nevis, when the Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris-led Team Unity Government holds a contract signing ceremony for entities who will be carrying out construction work under phase two of the island main road rehabilitation project.

The national community is invited to come out and witness this significant and historic signing ceremony between the Government and the seven contractors who submitted successful bids. The ceremony is scheduled to take place on Thursday, March 14 at 4:30pm at Cunningham Estate.

The Team Unity Government will hold the signing ceremony in keeping with the transparency and accountability that have been hallmarks of the Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris-led Administration, which has seen it receiving high accolades including being ranked number 1 in the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) and 30 out of 126 countries worldwide in the 2019 World Justice Project (WJP) Rule of Law Index.

The WJP Rule of Law Index measures countries’ rule of law performance across eight factors namely: constraints on government powers, absence of corruption, open government, fundamental rights, order and security, regulatory enforcement, civil justice and criminal justice.

The completion of phase two of the project will result in the resurfacing of the entire island main road network.

Prime Minister Harris has stated previously that his Team Unity-led Government is making every effort to ensure small contractors across the length and breadth of the country reap the benefits from these significant infrastructural investments.

Speaking at the January 23, 2019 groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the new Sandy Point Police Station, the honourable prime minister stated, “We believe that every citizen deserves a fair chance. We believe that every opportunity in the country should be opened up to anyone from St. Kitts or Nevis to at least get the opportunity to bid on a particular project.”

Five contractors, namely: Allie Construction, Boonies Construction, B&B Ltd., Huggins and Son Construction and O’Loughlin Construction, were awarded contracts to participate in phase one of the road project. Phase One encompassed road and drainage work being done from Conaree going eastward to Keys Village and from the Camps’ Roundabout heading west down to the Challengers community.
