Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 15, 2019 (SKNIS): Parliamentary representative for constituency 8, the Honourable Eugene Hamilton, said that private sector investments are vital to the developmental agenda of St. Kitts and Nevis as they are the main engine of growth for any economy.

The statement was made during the Contract Signing ceremony for Phase 2 of the Island Main Road Rehabilitation Project on Thursday, March 14, 2019, in Cayon.

“While government has its role, the private sector also has its role… and that is why in the past years of this Team Unity Administration we have embraced private sector investments. We have encouraged individuals to invest and grow so that neither they nor their families or employees will be a burden to the state,” said Minister Hamilton, while noting the value of contributions from private sector businesses.

Some of the notable investments mentioned by Minister Hamilton and welcomed by government in the area include but are not limited to the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Machine at the St. Kitts Biomedical Foundation, the opening of a new lab for conducting tests and the opening of a gas station in Cayon.

Equally important, Minister Hamilton noted that although the private sector has its role to play, government continues to fulfill its part as manifested in developments in St. Kitts and Nevis over the past four years.

“…As we enter the central part of the Green Valley community and as we embark on what is a signing ceremony for local contractors to be engaged in completing the road, we are adding one more teaspoon or tablespoon full of development to this nation,” he said. “It is a proud moment for me to be at the front gate of my community and village to witness what is a historic moment where we set about to complete the road project that takes us all the way through the island.”

The local contractors for Phase 2 of the project are Boonie’s Construction Company Ltd; Allie’s Construction; Anthony Huggins & Sons; I&B Limited; John Boy Construction (Dwight Berry); Stephen’s Construction; T&G Construction (Troy Flanders), as well as Surrey Paving & Aggregate Co. Ltd.
