Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 24, 2019 (SKNIS): St. Kitts and Nevis joined the rest of the world on Wednesday, April 24, to celebrate the hard-working and dedicated administrative professionals for their sterling contributions to the workplace.

Administrative Professionals Day, which is celebrated annually on the Wednesday in the last full week of April during Administrative Professional Week (April 22-26, 2019), recognizes the work of secretaries, administrative assistants, receptionists and other administrative support professionals.

Senior Minister and Minister of Labour, the Honourable Vance Amory, stated that this day is well deserved.

“The valuable contribution made every day by administrative professionals must be acknowledged with gratitude and celebrated with praise. Administrative Professionals’ Day recognizes the significant support and expertise administrative professionals provide in the workplace.  The roles of the Administrative Professionals are incredibly diverse, and often these professionals go above and beyond their regular duties.  They provide significant benefits to the organizations, institutions and people they support,” said Senior Minister Amory.

According to Minister Amory, the International Association of Administrative Professionals defines administrative professionals as “individuals who are responsible for administrative tasks and coordination of information in support of an office related environment and who are dedicated to furthering their personal and professional growth in their chosen profession”.

“These multi-tasking professionals skillfully manage and operate to ensure the best performance by their organizations.  I hasten to suggest, that this they do even when they are not properly remunerated.  Their education, training, competence and skill sets make them indispensable.  Coupled with the aforementioned, their commitment, dedication and loyalty also make them invaluable,” said the senior minister.

Senior Minister Amory used the opportunity to encourage administrative professionals in St. Kitts and Nevis “to keep pace with professional development and training in their field.”

“Such training and development will help them to be more efficient and effective in their administrative role.   We recognize the work that has been done and that which they continue to do as administrative professionals.  They juggle multiple responsibilities as they support hectic offices and busy managers,” he said.  “Every year there is an increasing number of Administrative Professionals who take up more professional tasks, such as managing processes, projects and people.   They juggle short-term and long-term plans and projects, and they help businesses achieve their goals and objectives.”

He called on the general public to recognize the invaluable contributions of Administrative Professionals as they “often display good communication skills and work effectively with different personalities and work styles of the individuals they are supporting, as well as help to shape, organize and propel businesses into success and into the future.”

“It is a day that recognizes and celebrates administrative excellence.  Let them enjoy the red carpet, VIP treatment as we remind ourselves of their importance to our organizations.  They are the unsung heroes of every organization and every work place and they do deserve this recognition!” he added.
