In his presentation, Prime Minister Harris commended the more than 250 Kittitians and Nevisians for attending the event, adding that, “It is a clear indication that the people of St. Kitts and Nevis continue to be interested in the forward march of their beloved land.”

Among the achievements to which the prime minister spoke to was the significant improvements in the relationship between the Federal Government and the Nevis Island Administration (NIA).

“Look how far under Team Unity we have come, from a country where the cheques for the Nevis Island Administration were being bounced by the Douglas administration to now in less than four years we have given [budgetary] support of over $200 million to our sisters and brothers in Nevis,” said Prime Minister Harris.

The prime minister was greeted with an ovation when he apprised the audience of the positive strides being made by the Ministry of National Security in curbing crime, in particular gang related homicides.

“I know many of you are pleased to have learnt about the reduction in crime. For the last seven months we have had a calm…in St. Kitts and Nevis. From since February [there has been] not one gang related homicide in our beloved country,” Dr. Harris said, while noting that, “So long as I’m prime minister every resource that is available to preserve the peace will be committed to preserve the peace.”

Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris also updated those in attendance on the steps being taken to improve governance in St. Kitts and Nevis including through the passing of the Motion of No Confidence Bill, 2019 in the last sitting of the National Assembly.

He added, “When we meet at the next Parliament we will bring a bill to limit the tenure of the prime minister to two terms.”

Prime Minister Harris, who is currently leading a high-level St. Kitts and Nevis delegation to the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, said that “It has taken hard work, it has taken ingenuity and it has taken love for country for us to achieve what we have achieved in four short years.”
