Finalists Prepare For Elocution Finals on Thursday October 3

(EMU) – St. Kitts, Sept 27, 2019: An annual elocution competition, organized by the Ministry of Education as part of the national Independence celebrations is stirring a buzz of anticipation among finalists and their supporters as the 2019 date approaches.
The elocution competition is an initiative of the Ministry of Education to boost national pride whilst preserving the valuable craft of poetry. Annually, a local piece is selected around which students of the various primary schools compete to deliver the best version of the spoken piece.

This year, semi finalists prepared to deliver and excerpt from, “Arise” by local calypsonian, the late King Arrow.

Advancing to the finals, which will be held at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank Auditorium are Acasia Hodge of the Cayon Primary School, Lavonna Boddie of the Edgar T. Morris Primary School, Seia Mason of the Sandy Point Primary School, Devarie Mason of the St. Paul’s Primary School, Elvisca Crooke of the Beach Allen Primary School and Kahlia Simmonds of the Dean Glasford Primary School.

Permanent Secretary of Education Mr William Hodge said persons should make every effort to be present at the Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium by 6:15pm latest on Thursday October 3 the ensure that they do to miss out on the outstanding performances these students will display starting at 6:30pm.

Mr Hodge said the event promises to be one of the most entertaining and competitive activities of the 2019 independence celebrations held under the theme Unify, Transform, Enrich: Uplifting Communities for Independence 36!
