Proclamation (Extension of State of Emergency) dated the 7th day of April, 2020, made
pursuant to sections 19 (1) and 19 (3) of the Constitution and sections 3 and 4(1)(b) of
the Emergency Powers Act

WHEREAS by virtue of the provisions of section 19(1) of the Saint Christopher and Nevis 1983 Constitution Order, the Governor-General may by proclamation, declare that a state of emergency exists in Saint Christopher and Nevis for the purposes of Chapter II of the Constitution
AND WHEREAS by virtue of Proclamation No. 6 of 2020, dated 28th March, 2020, the Governor-General declared a State of Emergency for Saint Christopher and Nevis for the period 28th March, 2020 until 11th April, 2020, on the ground of the threat of a natural calamity of the COVID-19 virus, an infectious disease which had taken effect on a pandemic scale and which threatened the Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis
AND WHEREAS section 19(3)(b) of the Saint Christopher and Nevis Constitution Order, provides that a declaration of emergency shall lapse at the expiration of a period of twenty-one days beginning with the date of publication of the declaration
AND WHEREAS the COVID-19 virus continues to pose a significant threat of a natural calamity on the scale of a public health emergency to the Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis and it is necessary to extend Proclamation No. 6 of 2020 for the state of emergency to be in effect for a further period, that is, from 6:01 p.m. on Saturday 11th April, 2020 until 7 p.m. on Saturday, 18th April, 2020
NOW THEREFORE, I, Sir Samuel Weymouth Tapley Seaton, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, Queen’s Counsel, Justice of the Peace, Doctor of Laws, Governor-General of the Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis DO HEREBY declare that a State of Emergency for Saint Christopher and Nevis continues to exist until 7 p.m. on Saturday, 18th April, 2020 and is reasonably justifiable in the interest of public health on the ground of the threat of a natural calamity of the COVID-19 virus, an infectious disease which has taken effect both on a pandemic scale and in the Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis
This Proclamation for the extension of the State of Emergency shall be in effect from 6:01 p.m. on Saturday 11th April, 2020 until 7 p.m. on Saturday, 18th April, 2020 AND all our officers and loving subjects in Saint Christopher and Nevis and all others whom it may concern are hereby required to take due notice hereof and to give their ready obedience accordingly.
