Since 2017, the SKNUWIAA has organized the St. Kitts and Nevis Global Giving and National UWI Alumni Pelican Award ceremony. At this ceremony, an outstanding Kittitian or Nevisian alumnus of the University is recognized for their contribution at local, regional and international levels. Recent past Pelican awardees include His Excellency Sir S.W. Tapley Seaton, Governor-General of the Federation, The Right Excellent the Right Honorable Dr Kennedy Simmonds, first Prime Minister and National Hero, Dr Keith Archibald and Mrs Lorna Nisbett-Callender. The ceremony is annually held on Emancipation Day, August 1, under the theme “Emancipate, Educate, Donate”.

The UWI’s Global Giving Programme was launched in 2016 with a special region-wide Global Giving Week held from 1-7 August annually. Proceeds of the programme go towards funding students, research, facilities and equipment, construction and maintenance of residential halls, and faculty and sports programmes across the University.

On June 26th, during the first-ever UWI Global Alumni Day, The St Kitts and Nevis UWI Alumni Association received the Most Impactful Alumni Association Award.
