Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 26, 2021 (SKNIS): The Ministry of Health and the Information Technology Department in St. Kitts and Nevis are working together to include a new section on the COVID-19 digital vaccination cards.

Currently, the digital cards capture the patient’s name and ID number, dosage status, the type of vaccine administered and the vaccination site and other critical information. Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Hazel Laws said that the additional section for a booster shot is necessary given that health centres are now offering such to the local population.

“The booster doses will be added to the [COVID-19] database and to the electronic vaccination card at the soonest,” CMO Laws said at the COVID-19 Briefing by the National Emergency Operations Centre on November 24, 2021.

A growing number of international countries are recommending booster shots to maintain the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines. Minister of Youth, the Honourable Jonel Powell and Medical Chief of Staff of the Joseph N. France General Hospital, Dr. Cameron Wilkinson, are among national leaders who have stepped forward to receive a booster shot to date.

Booster shots are recommended for all eligible persons. Individuals 60 years and older, who received a jab of a COVID-19 vaccine more than six months ago, are strongly encouraged to get a booster shot.
