BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, August 29, 2022 (SKNIS): The St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots were crowned champions in the inaugural SKYEXCH 6IXTY after two thrilling matches at Warner Park Cricket Stadium on Sunday, August 28, 2022.

The first edition of THE 6IXTY, staged by the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), saw men’s and women’s teams compete in a new 60-ball tournament featuring many of the best cricketers from around the world with SKYEXCH, the title sponsor for 2022.

Fans turned out in large numbers to show support for the Patriots as the local team took to the pitch over the weekend. The large crowds at Warner Park indicated that the sport of cricket is well loved across the Federation, with many local vendors also benefitting from the hosting of THE 6IXTY games and the upcoming Hero CPL T20 2022.

In an exciting final game, the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots took down the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) to lift the Universe Boss SKYEXCH 6IXTY trophy for the first time ever.

Minister of Sports, the Hon. Samal Duggins was on hand to join in the celebration and present the winning trophy to the Patriots. The Barbados Royals also secured the title in the inaugural women’s SKYEXCH 6IXTY also held at Warner Park. They defeated the TKR women’s team.

“Congratulations to the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots, winners of the first-ever SKYEXCH T10 Cricket Tournament! Our Federation’s very own, Jeremiah Louis and Jaden Carmichael were a part of the winning squad. It was a thrilling game and now, we look forward to supporting our team as they begin their defense of the CPL T20 Championship on Wednesday, August 31st at 7 pm at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium right here in St. Kitts-Nevis,” said Minister Duggins in a social media post.

Having completed the double of winning CPL T20 in 2021 and the inaugural men’s 6IXTY, the Patriots are the team to beat this season. CPL T20 2022 is set to kick off on August 31 and will be played across four venues in St. Kitts, Saint Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana, with the finals scheduled for September 30.
