The Bank unveiled its 40th Anniversary Celebrations with an impressive Calendar of Events at a media briefing for ECCU media workers at the Bank’s Headquarters on February 15 that reflected the colourful economy of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (ECCU). The blue, green, silver, golden, orange, and yellow economies have been reflected in the Calendar with the first event being the Launch held on January 19, 2023, and the ultimate event, which will be the ECCB@40 Gala and Awards and Thank you Fete to be hosted on December 9, 2023.

The Blue Economy is a term in economics relating to the exploitation, preservation and regeneration of the marine environment. The Green Economy is an economy that aims at reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities, and that aims for sustainable development without degrading the environment. The Silver Economy is the system of production, distribution and consumption of goods and services aimed at using the purchasing potential of older and ageing people and satisfying their consumption, living and health needs. The Orange Economy is also known as the Creative Economy and is the bringing together of sectors of the economy whose main purpose is the production or reproduction, promotion, dissemination and/or marketing of goods, services and activities that have cultural, artistic or patrimonial content. The Yellow Economy is a model followed in smart cities and precision agriculture which is mainly about innovation for better use of resources and greater productivity. In recent years, science and tech-driven production has been coined as the yellow economy. The Golden Economy is fashioned from a strategy to reposition the cultural industries in South Africa. The strategy opens up the arts, culture and heritage sectors to contribute to economic growth and job creation effectively and comprehensively.

Speaking at the media briefing to unveil the Calendar of Events, the Governor of the ECCB, Mr. Timothy Antoine said, “Today, we are very pleased to be able to have this opportunity to share with you our Calendar of Events for the special milestone of our 40th Anniversary. We want to do two things—we want to put you in the loop, bring you in, and give you that exclusive look and we also want to solicit your support for the events throughout the year given the significance of this milestone not just for the ECCB but for all the citizens and residents of our currency union.”
