Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 19, 2023 (SKNIS): With the growing demand for entry into St. Kitts and Nevis via InterCaribbean Airways (ICA), the St. Kitts Tourism Authority has once again negotiated a settlement with the Airways to increase aircraft capacity from a 30 to a 50-seater, starting the fourth week of May.

The service from the Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados commenced on Sunday, March 12, 2023, with an Embraer-120 aircraft with a seating capacity of 30, servicing St. Kitts from Barbados three times weekly on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays with one-stop connectivity via Barbados to Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Lucia, Dominica, Georgetown, Guyana, and soon-to-come Port of Spain.

During the Prime Minister’s Press Conference with Cabinet Ministers on May 18, the Honourable Marsha Henderson, Minister of Tourism, said since its commencement the flight arrived in St. Kitts and Nevis filled to capacity. She said it was important to make the adjustments to accommodate travelers desirous of visiting the destination.

“Coming next week, we are going to increase the flight to a 50-seater – the ATR – whereby more persons would get the opportunity as the demand is there,” said Minister Henderson.  “We have good news; we have not spent one dollar on the MRG [Minimum Revenue Guarantee] that is in place with InterCaribbean Airways.”

A minimum revenue guarantee is a sum of money paid to airlines if they do not reach a set income goal. The income goal is agreed upon in the airliner’s contract.
