Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 22, 2023 (SKNIS): While prospective homeowners in St. Kitts are eager to learn more about the proposed housing solutions by the East Coast Housing Development, which is set to construct some 600 homes in the first instance, applicants can rest assured that other housing solutions are still available at the National Housing Corporation (NHC).

Leon Natta, Special Advisor to the NHC, said that the demand for housing is tremendous, with some 3,800 applications currently existing at the housing agency. As such, the government is working to ensure that various affordable options are offered to the public.

“The usual process of persons applying to NHC through the building assistance or through the housing scheme, that option is still available for our people,” he stated. “And also, the government is looking at alternative methods where we can construct houses and even provide more affordable housing solutions.”

Mr. Natta said that more information will be forthcoming as details are finalized. In the meantime, contractors, tradesmen, and other skilled workers were encouraged to continue registering their interest to participate in various NHC initiatives. He expressed that the housing solutions are designed to meet the demands for housing while providing employment opportunities for locals.
