BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, 9th June, 2023 – The Department of Constituency Empowerment (DCE) continued its training as it collaborated with The Department of Community Development and Social Services (CDSS) to conduct a community walk-through in Dieppe Bay on Tuesday, 6th June, 2023.

The purpose was to interact with members of the community about the issues they face within the family, as well as issues within the community. Based on the findings, initiatives may be formulated to try and address them.

During the walk-through, the most pressing issues highlighted included acquiring land for housing, paving old alleyways, creating social programmes for the youth, matters relating to aging and disability, the use of green spaces for recreation and family parks, assistance for building homes for young people, permanent jobs, and skills training programmes.

Being newly operationalized, the Department of Constituency Empowerment welcomed the opportunity to further build its capacity and get hands-on- training in the field where strategies and techniques of the CDSS can be employed to determine what can be incorporated into the DCE work plan.

The walk-through complements one pillar of the DCE that speaks to increased community participation that promotes buy-in on how to bring forward programmes and policies.
