RSCNPF IMPROVING COMMUNITY SURVEILLANCE CAPABILITIES

The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) continues to intensify and expand its efforts to curb incidences of criminal activity in St. Kitts and Nevis. At last week’s press conference on June 7th, 2023, Commissioner of Police James Sutton outlined a number of administrative and tactical adjustments the Force recently executed in an effort to increase manpower and their community presence. Among these changes was the High Command’s decision to suspend all personal leave and vacation for Police, and significantly increasing the number of community patrols nationwide.

To further augment these changes, the Police Force is also expanding and upgrading its national CCTV monitoring system. This effort began apace on June 10th, 2023, in the area of McKnight on St. Kitts with the installation of additional surveillance cameras in key areas. In the coming weeks, additional surveillance cameras will be installed in communities around the country. Those previously installed will be upgraded to ensure law enforcement officers are provided with critical technical support at all times.

The RSCNPF’s primary goal is the establishment and maintenance of an atmosphere of peace, safety, and security in the Federation. We continue to remind the general public that the technology, tactics, and tenacity of the Police and other law enforcement agencies are not the only ingredients in any anti-crime recipe. Criminal activity must be combated on all fronts. Society’s collaboration and cooperation are vital elements of the Force’s multifaceted approach to arrest the current situation.

As we strive to create an environment in which criminal elements are perpetually disempowered, we urge everyone to say something if you see something. Report any criminal activity you see to law enforcement. In addition to this being forming part of our civic duty, it demonstrates a high level of integrity and personal responsibility when each of us plays our part in giving ourselves and our communities the best chance at healing and positive growth in the near future.
