We acknowledge the negative impact of colonialism and the resulting continuing challenges to their development. We remain committed to their further integration and advancement in the region.

Today’s theme, “Indigenous youth as agents of change for self-determination” aligns with CARICOM’s strategic focus on empowering and equipping our young people. It also underscores the need for policy makers to partner with indigenous youth to design appropriate interventions to develop their communities.

The Caribbean Community is committed to its mandate to promote and support a unified Region that is inclusive and that shares in economic, social and cultural prosperity. Happy International Day of World Indigenous Peoples.
