BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, August 11, 2023 (SKNIS): The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) and the World Food Programme (WFP) will conduct an emergency humanitarian logistics workshop in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Basseterre, St. Kitts, from Tuesday, 15th to Friday, 18th August, 2023, at the NEMA Headquarters.
The purpose of the workshop is to train a group of persons in the area of Emergency Humanitarian Logistics. These persons, when trained will be able to support the national mechanism during disaster emergencies.
Participants in the workshop will be trained in several areas including how to conduct damage assessment and needs analysis and execute data preparedness exercises; explain sourcing and sources of relief aid, shipping of humanitarian cargo and the supply chain management flow; describe the functions of customs authorities, humanitarian cargo and the clearance process; describe the elements of warehouse management in disaster preparedness and response; identify steps in the warehouse management flow: picking, sorting, packing, cargo delivery flow and last mile; plan for an emergency response, population targeting, planning, organizing, and monitoring distribution of humanitarian goods; and describe, implement and manage different types of successful pest control methods.
World Food Programme Supply Chain Officers Mr. Jean Paul Laveau and Major Damain Bromley will facilitate the 4-day workshop.
The opening ceremony will take place at the NEMA Conference Room on Tuesday, 15th August at 8:30 am. Remarks will be made by representatives from the CDEMA, the WFP, and the NEMA.
