VANCOUVER, CANADA, 23 August 2023 [PMO]– Honourable Dr. Joyelle Clarke, Minister of Environment, Climate Action, and Constituency Empowerment, is spearheading transformative efforts in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to revolutionize the Energy Sector in St Kitts and Nevis.

In a landmark meeting held on August 22, 2023, at the Seventh Assembly of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), Minister Clarke joined forces with Asher Lessels, Task Manager for GEF’s Mitigation Projects in Latin America and the Caribbean. Their discussions centered around the ambitious “GEF-7 National Project: Achieving Rapid Decarbonization of the Energy Sector in Saint Kitts and Nevis,” which received approval from the GEF CEO on May 11, 2023.

This groundbreaking project aims to transition the nation towards 100% renewable electricity generation and elevate the energy efficiency of public buildings to new heights.
