A BILL to amend the Architects Registration Act and for related matters
BE IT ENACTED by the King’s Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the National Assembly of Saint Christopher and Nevis and by the authority of the same as follows:
1. Short title.
This Act may be cited as the Architects (Registration) Act, 2024.
2. Interpretation.
In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires
“Act” means the Architects Registration Act, No. 16 of 2010.
3. Amendment of Section 3.
The Act is amended in Section 3 by inserting immediately after subsection (2), the following new subsection (3) as follows:
“ (3) The Minister may, prior to appointing the initial members of the Board, consult with the St. Kitts-Nevis Institute of Architects.”.
4. Amendment of section 9.
Section 9 of the Act is amended by replacing paragraph (c) as follows
“ (c) he or she has had not less than ten years of practical experience in architecture where five of those ten years was acquired in Saint Christopher and Nevis and he or she qualified for registration before the commencement of this Act;”.
5. Amendment of section 20.
The Act is amended in section 20 by replacing paragraph (c) as follows:
“ (c) providing architectural services for single family dwelling dwellings other than where the multiple production of houses is involved or where the buildings concerned are to be not more than
(i) two storeys in height; and
(ii) two thousand five hundred square feet.
6. Amendment of Schedule 1.
The Act is amended in Schedule 1 by inserting immediately after paragraph (1) subparagraph (2), the following new subparagraphs (3), (4) and (5).
“(3) At least one of the members appointed to the Board shall be an architect whose practice is based in Nevis.
(4) At least one of the members appointed to the Board shall be a well-established practitioner who does not possess the qualifications referred to in paragraph 9(b)(i) and (iii) but who is qualified to be an architect solely as a result of his or her vast experience in the field of architecture.
(5) The member referred to in (1)(b)(iii) who is not a registered architect shall be an attorney-at-law.
