Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 06, 2024 (SKNIS): As part of the thrust to create a sustainable island state, the popular St. Kitts Music Festival, scheduled for June 27 to June 29, 2024, will take on a modern eco-friendly atmosphere, demonstrating to visitors and residents the government’s commitment to protect the environment and address climate change.

The eco-friendly practices will ensure vendors at the annual festival utilise alternatives to plastic cups, plates, and utensils. Recycling bins will be posted around the concert venue while posters and direct interaction with attendees throughout the event are included in the Music Fest Goes Green initiative

Sherverne Gardiner, Environmental Officer in the Department of Environment, highlighted details about the initiative on Wednesday’s (June 05, 2024) edition of the radio and television programme, InFocus.

“We are trying to make sure that persons who are visiting are aware that St. Kitts and Nevis is taking a stand to promote sustainability and combat climate issues,” he stated, adding that more initiatives will be unveiled shortly.

The government is seeking to achieve a Sustainable Island State through promoting eco-friendly practices, promoting the use of renewable technologies such as solar power, and enhancing legislation to expand environmental protections such as the ban on single-use plastics that comes into effect later this year.
