United Nations, New York (14th August 2024) – On the afternoon of Monday 12th August 2024, in an unprecedented move for the Federation, H.E Dr. Mutryce Williams, the Federation’s Permanent Representative and current Chair of the CARICOM Caucus of Ambassadors, cordially welcomed her American counterpart H.E Linda Thomas-Greenfield to the Saint Kitts and Nevis Permanent Mission to the United Nations.

Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield’s visit to brief the Caribbean Community Caucus follows her previous visits, on behalf of the Biden administration, to the Caribbean – including at the Conference of Heads of State/Government and most recently to the Republic of Haiti where she engaged with the Presidential Transitional Council, the Haitian National Police and UN agencies. The diplomatic outreach benefitted from a rich exchange of views on finding solutions for the multidimensional security and developmental challenges that hinder the resilient development of the CARICOM Member State of Haiti. Through the CARICOM Chair, the region expressed hope for a result-based Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) that eventually empowers Haitians to take back control of their country’s future.

During the interactive session, the CARICOM Caucus capitalized on the opportunity to thank the American government for its humanitarian assistance following the passage of Hurricane Beryl, and called for a deepened dialogue on disaster as the region anxiously observes an above-average hurricane season.

The invitation by the Saint Kitts and Nevis Ambassador to her American colleague represents the work programme of Ambassador Williams’ vision for an edifying and effective multilateral diplomacy that geo-strategically positions the Federation as an able partner of choice in the Caribbean for dialogue, cooperation, and partnership.
