BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, September 09, 2024 (SKNIS) – The Federal Cabinet, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister, the Honourable Dr. Terrance Drew, welcomed a delegation from Dalhousie University out of Nova Scotia, Canada during its meeting on Monday, September 09, 2024.

The delegation from the research-intensive university comprised Vice President of Research and Innovation, Dr. Alice Aiken and university Chancellor, Dr. Rustum Southwell—a distinguished son of the soil.

During the meeting, Dr. Aiken and Dr. Southwell delivered an insightful and informative presentation to the Cabinet members that touched on the scope of the current areas of partnership between Dalhousie University and the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.

Additionally, the university officials underscored the importance of broadening the areas of cooperation and partnership in emerging sectors, particularly as the Federation transitions towards a Sustainable Island State.

Several promising areas for future collaboration were outlined. These include climate smart agriculture to address food and nutritional security, value addition and agri-processing, sustainable solutions to sargassum, ocean education and management, sustainable energy and storage, and building a climate resilient health sector, which the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis has already taken significant steps towards achieving.

Prime Minister Dr. Drew thanked Dr. Aiken and Dr. Southwell for their presentation to the Federal Cabinet. Dr. Drew also expressed his gratitude towards Dalhousie University for its interest in deepening the cooperation with the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis in meaningful ways that will advance the nation’s goal of becoming a Sustainable Island State.

Dr. Aiken and Dr. Southwell was accompanied by the H.E. Samuel Berridge, High Commissioner of St. Kitts and Nevis to Canada.
