Basseterre, St. Kitts, 6 th November, 2024 (CFBC): Students of the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant
College (CFBC) enrolled in the Early Childhood Education Course recently embarked on two
insightful field trips as part of their Philosophical Foundations of Early Childhood (ECPF 101)
class. These educational excursions took place on Tuesday, 29 th October, and Thursday, 31 st
October, 2024.

The first visit was to the Montessori pre-school in Fortlands, Basseterre, and the second trip was
to Nevis where the students visited the Gingerland and Charlestown preschools.
The trips were integral to the students’ class assignment, providing them with practical
experiences to complement their theoretical studies. Through these field trips, students had the
opportunity to observe and engage with early childhood education environments, enriching their
understanding of the philosophical underpinnings of early childhood education.

Lanisa Burke, a dedicated student in the ECPF 101 course, expressed that the field trips were
both “fun and informative.” She highlighted how these excursions provided valuable insights
into various teaching styles and daily routines. Lanisa emphasized that the experience offered her
and her classmates a unique opportunity to observe pre-school students firsthand, noting the rich
diversity in culture, ethnicity, and socio-economic backgrounds. This exposure, she said,
significantly enhanced their understanding and appreciation of the complexities within early
childhood education.
Ms. Nadine Lawrence is the lecturer of the Philosophical Foundations of Early Childhood
course.
