Abuja, Nigeria, March 26, 2026 (PMO) – Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew, has strengthened diplomatic and developmental ties with the Federal Republic of Nigeria following a high-level courtesy call on His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President of Nigeria.
The engagement underscored a deepening relationship between the Caribbean and Africa, grounded in shared history, mutual respect, and a clear commitment to advancing tangible cooperation across key sectors.
Speaking to members of the Nigerian media following the meeting, Prime Minister Drew expressed profound appreciation for the hospitality and leadership demonstrated by the Nigerian President, while highlighting the significance of the engagement for both regions.
He further emphasized that the relationship between Nigeria and the Caribbean continues to evolve in meaningful ways, noting that, “This collaboration has been tremendous. It has had a tremendous impact on the development and advancement of the Caribbean, coming from Nigeria, which is a significant country in the African continent and in the world.”

Prime Minister Drew also used the opportunity to reflect on the deep ancestral and cultural connections that bind the people of St. Kitts and Nevis to Nigeria, particularly referencing historical ties to the Calabar region. “This is our people… I always say, we have come back home. This is always a pleasure to be back,” he said, reinforcing the emotional and historical significance of the visit.
The discussions between Prime Minister Drew and the Nigerian President focused on a wide range of priority areas aimed at strengthening cooperation and delivering real, measurable outcomes for citizens across both regions.
Highlighting existing successes, Prime Minister Drew pointed to the growing presence of Nigerian professionals in St. Kitts and Nevis, particularly within the healthcare sector. “A lot of Nigerians have studied in my country, and there are doctors here today, and we had a contingent of doctors who went to Saint Kitts and Nevis already, we are seeing some tangible benefits with respect to our collaboration.”
He continued, “Now we are taking it to the next level, which we have agreed to. So there will be a special envoy to Saint Kitts and Nevis, and of course, we would have a special envoy here to further the collaboration and make sure that they are tangible benefits for both Saint Kitts and Nevis and the wider CARICOM and for Nigeria and the wider African continent.”

As Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, and Chair of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Prime Minister Drew has made it clear that deepening Africa-Caribbean relations remains a central pillar of his foreign policy agenda, with a focus on transforming historical connections into modern partnerships that deliver real opportunities in trade, investment, culture, and human development.
The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis remains committed to building on the outcomes of this engagement, ensuring that the strengthened relationship with Nigeria translates into sustained collaboration, expanded opportunities, and shared progress for the people of both regions.
