Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 06, 2017 (RSCNPF): Officer’s within the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force are optimistic for change in youth behaviour after witnessing youth rallies on St. Kitts and Nevis this week.
The anti-crime rallies were held on Tuesday (April 4) and Thursday (April 6) respectively and brought to climax a three month engagement with hundreds of students and Dr. Neals Chitan, an International Social Skills Consultant and Crime Reduction Specialist.
Dr. Chitan spent the months interacting with the students, with schools, in the communities and with other stakeholders, spreading a message of “Stop N Think” before you act.
During the closing rallies in St. Kitts and Nevis it was clear the students embraced the message and it expressed it in their presentations. In St. Kitts, AVEC student, Andrew Mosquito said, “over the last three months, his (Dr Chitan) wealth of knowledge impacted me in a tremendous way, and the manner in which he broke down realistic situations opened my eyes on life experiences and allowed me to view reality from a different perspective. He added, “anxiously, I looked forward to attending his sessions because his interesting discussions aroused my curiosity for learning. I feel confident now that I can apply what I have learned to my-day-to day life.”
It was against this backdrop and from hearing similar sentiments that Superintendent Cromwell Henry, Head of Police Division “A” and other Officer’s like Inspector Alonzo Carty in Nevis said they were optimistic to see the changes in the attitudes of the young people.
Inspector Carty said, “I have already seen some changes in behaviour in town, I am seeing more pride in how some wear the school uniform, and how they interact with each other. I encourage them to embrace the life lessons learned and “Stop N Think” before they act.
