Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 09, 2018 (SKNIS): As the technological age continues to evolve, the Ministry of Posts is focused on the integration of new ideas that would result in a more inclusive approach for future postal services. In doing so, the ministry has outlined strategies to answer the following: how we interface with customers; how people work together; and the way in which postal leaders collaborate with stakeholders in the market.

“The Post Office is still a relevant vehicle of the future.  It is therefore incumbent on us to find different ways to appeal to the general public and our stakeholders,” said Minister of Post, the Honourable Ian Patches Liburd, during his speech marking the observance of World Post Day 2018 on October 09. “I am happy to share with you that these strategic discussions have begun and are expected to continue.”

Minister Liburd noted that the post office is extremely important, hence, innovation is a must. He said that the month of October is dedicated to reflecting on the overall World Post Day theme: “Innovation, Integration and Incision” and increasing the visibility of the Post Offices. He added that the Ministry of Post will conclude its celebratory activities with the launch of a Facebook page and an Instagram account.

“This wave of e-commerce and digitization demands that the General Post Office holds a pride of place in the national socio-economic development of St. Kitts and Nevis,” said Minister Liburd.  “As we open new lines of communication to build a more profound understanding of how we can meet the needs of people, as a Government we are committed to supporting and implementing policies that would drive growth and innovation.”

Minister Liburd emphasized that post offices have an extensive network and they afford everyone the same opportunity to be reached in reliable ways.

“I therefore salute the institution, the General Post Office, for the critical role it plays in our everyday lives.  I also challenge all of us to work together in order to enhance the image of the postal sector and shepherd its path to innovative, integrated and inclusive services.  Let us continue to adopt new technologies and embrace transformation,” he said

World Post Day is celebrated annually on 9 October, the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874 in the Swiss Capital, Bern. It was declared World Post Day by the UPU Congress held in Tokyo, Japan, in 1969. Since then, countries across the world participate annually in the celebrations. The Posts in many countries use the event to introduce or promote new postal products and services.
