Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 12, 2018 (SKNIS): Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, on Wednesday, December 12, during the Sitting of Parliament introduced the Appropriation (2019) Bill, 2018, of approximately EC$773 million, under the theme: “Sustaining Growth and Prosperity”.

“…this Budget debate must be about how we are enhancing the quality of life for the ordinary people of St. Christopher and Nevis. This Budget then, is about how we sustain the growth and prosperity that are happening in St. Kitts and Nevis,” said Prime Minister Harris.

Dr. Harris reflected on the achievements of his government since taking office in February 2015, noting that his government is particularly proud. He added that the “impact of the various policies, programmes and projects has been far reaching and being felt throughout the communities.”

“We have delivered solutions in many areas to improve the lives of the people. We have delivered solutions in education, healthcare, water, sanitation, roads, housing and other public infrastructure. No investment in our people is too great,” he said. “Accordingly, we will continue to invest in these areas in order to achieve our goal of sustainable and inclusive people development and our vision of shared prosperity for all citizens and residents of our beloved country.

The Appropriation (2019) Bill, 2018, is a Bill to provide for the services of Saint Christopher and Nevis for the financial year commencing January 01, 2019, and ending on December 31, 2019.

The finance minister used the occasion to express his profound appreciation to the staff and the entire government who worked diligently day in and day out to ensure that the preparation of the 2019 Budget Estimates was successful.

The introduction of the Appropriation (2019) Bill, 2018, came minutes after the laying of the Estimates of Expenditure, which were approved by the Honourable House.
