Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 20, 2018 (SKNIS): “Young men, young women of St. Kitts and Nevis, your country needs you!”

The call to serve was made by Senior Minister the Honourable Vance Amory on Tuesday, December 18, 2018, while delivering the feature address at the 41st Graduation Ceremony for Course 42 of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF).

“The government continues to appeal to our young Kittitians and Nevisians to take advantage of the career opportunities in serving their country as police officers. It is a noble profession,” he said.

Course 42 comprised 32 males and two females. Twenty-five were recruited from St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Another recruit was raised in St. Kitts but was born in Anguilla.

“Our [government’s] appeal is that local citizens need to follow the example of our Vincentian colleagues and see this as an opportunity to serve this country,” Honourable Amory said. “If you engage in the positive side of what happens in our country, it is clear then by exclusion that you cannot be involved in the negative side.”

Over the past three years, government has implemented a number of initiatives to increase the attractiveness of the police service. This includes a 20 percent increase in risk pay for members of the security forces. There was also a 40 percent increase in displacement allowances and a 50 percent increase in ferry allowances for police officers serving in Nevis.
