Basseterre, St. Kitts, February 27, 2019 (SKNIS): While in attendance at the 30th Inter-Sessional Meeting for Heads of Government of CARICOM, Prime Minister, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris after personally viewing the Health and Human Resource Expo, lauded the Ministry of Health for its efforts on the initiative.

“I think it is a very good idea from the Ministry of Health and its partners to use the session of the inter-sessional meeting to organize a health fair. We have to begin to sell the message of wellness and good health habits everywhere and this conference provides a unique opportunity for that message to go out again,” said Prime Minister Harris, who is CARICOM’s Lead Head responsible for Health and Human Resource Development in CARICOM’s Quasi-Cabinet.

He highlighted that when the Universal Health Coverage is implemented in the Federation, it will be a major revolution for healthcare because it will “bring the issue of affordability and access into better reach of our people once we launch the programme.”

“I want to commend all the leaders in their respective booths,” he said, while noting that the participation from Nevis reemphasizes the government’s mission to spread the message of good health across the length and breadth of the entire Federation.

He explained that as the CARICOM Lead head on matters of Health and Human Resource Development, having the expo as a part of the conference was very fitting.

“The fundamental matter of health being the wealth of the people of the region is being exemplified through this fair which brings attention to the need for everyone at the individual level…,” said Prime Minister Harris, while adding that individuals should take responsibility for their own health.

“We want the region as a whole and everyone in St. Kitts and Nevis to have a consciousness and a determination to take the best personal action that he or she can to advance his or her wellness and wellbeing,” he said.
