Donation of Computers by Alexis Weekes to Bronte Welsh Primary  Dubbed Extraordinary Generosity

(EMU) – St. Kitts, December 3, 2019: The Ministry of Education and more specifically the Bronte
Welsh Primary School has received a generous donation of 15 HP computers from Alexis Weekes a past
student of the school now residing in the United States.

Education Officer Carol Boddie, representing the Ministry at the handing over ceremony encouraged
students to use the computers effectively.

SOUNDBITE: “It is hoped that the teachers would help you the students to use the computers as a tool
for research and expose you to keyboarding or typing skills so that you don’t have to wait on mommies
and daddies or other adults to type your projects for you especially you students of grades five and six.”
Ms. Boddie stated that it would benefit students when they reached the point of doing SBAs and other
work requiring research.

Valdene Rogers Principal told the gathering of expectant students and teachers that Alexis Weekes is the
son of Ophelia Pedro (Vanterpool) and Earnest Weeks, raised by his grandmother Bernadine Weekes.
The headmistress thanked the family for its input in raising Alexis who has turned out to be such a
generous individual.

SOUNDBITE: “Mr. Pedro (Weekes) visited our school which is his Alma Mater. He saw our need and
promised to assist us in enhancing technology in our classrooms. Today he is donation 15 computers
which will help our students to achieve their dreams.”

The principal referred to the contribution as priceless to the students’ education.

SOUNDBITE: “Mr Pedro (Weekes) has brought us closer to our goal of using technology to enhance
learning and creating the best learning experience for all our students.”

The computers were handed over by Alexis’ mother and sister. He recently completed a master’s degree
and is pursuing a doctoral degree. Born in October 1974 he first attended the Trinity School, followed by
the Basseterre Junior High School. In the United States he pursued his first degree at Florida Atlantic
University.
