On behalf of the Government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis, Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris offers his sincere congratulations to British Prime Minister, His Excellency Boris Johnson who has been returned to office by voters in the United Kingdom’s December 12th, 2019 general election.

In congratulating Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his government, the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis said, “This historic landslide victory has delivered the biggest win for the Conservatives since 1987 during the era of Margaret Thatcher, with 365 seats won yesterday in the 650-seat House of Commons.”

Prime Minister Harris added: “With this comfortable majority, you and your Conservative party have been handed a sweeping mandate to achieve the will of the people and implement your agenda, which includes moving quickly to take Britain out of the European Union.”

The Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis further stated that, “Your successful campaign, which ran on the promise to ‘Get Brexit Done,’ resonated with a large swath of the electorate who also responded well to your vows to lower taxes, prioritize help for those who struggle to meet the cost of living, and increase the living wage.  Now, the people have spoken, entrusting you and your Conservative party with the country’s future.”

Prime Minister Harris continued: “My Cabinet colleagues and I extend best wishes to you and your government, and I take this opportunity to convey our sincere interest in dialoguing and working together to advance our nations’ efforts and commitments to our people, both at home and in the diaspora.  We also look forward to holding meaningful discussions on how we can develop our trade relationship post-Brexit, as well as enhance areas of cooperation in part through our membership in the Commonwealth.”

UK stocks and the pound have surged on the news of the election results.

In his victory speech, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the outcome of the election represented a “new dawn” for the country.  He also vowed to fulfill the “sacred trust” placed in him.
