Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 11, 2022 (SKNIS): The Skills Empowerment Programme (STEP) is capitalizing on the three-week Easter break for schools in St. Kitts and Nevis by offering soft-skills training for its interns attached to public primary schools.

The training will cover Communication in the Workplace, Teamwork, and Conflict Management – three key areas that are extremely useful in any school environment. A new cohort will participate each day in the one-day sessions that began on Monday (April 11, 2022). This will allow for a more personalized experience for participants and encourage interactive exchanges with facilitators.

“This training exercise, in my mind, is a very pleasing event,” said Emile Greene, Director of STEP. During today’s opening ceremony, he noted that the training was designed to address the areas where some deficiencies have been reported.

“We want at the end of the day for this exercise, this investment to leave you a better and more valuable STEP participant. That means that when you leave here you should have knowledge and understanding of these three areas that you did not come with, or even if you have been exposed to this training before, it will build on your previous knowledge and understanding,” Director Greene added.

The management of STEP expects to increase training opportunities for interns in the coming months. The roadmap for such was outlined two years ago but was derailed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr. Greene indicated that field operators have benefited from a series of training courses this year. One such course explored the proper handling and use of weed eaters. Management training was also held for supervisors of the field operators. Additional training will be rolled out in the coming months.
