Position Summary:
The Vice President of Financial and Administrative Affairs (VPFAA) at the Clarence Fitzroy
Bryant College is the College’s Chief Financial Officer and is expected to plan, organize and direct
the financial accounting and reporting operations of the College.
The VPFAA provides leadership and executive oversight for a broad range of financial and support
operations, including financial planning and budgeting, controller functions, auditing, cash and
investment management, accounts receivable, accounts payable, procurement, student financial
services and financial administration of research and grants.
The VPFAA is expected to work collegially with other administrators, faculty and staff to
maintain strong academic quality across the institution and particularly with Institutional
Development to seek funding and administrative solutions to support the academic mission of
the College. He or she will promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement
that values learning and a commitment to quality. The VPFAA reports to the President.
Essential Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all aspects of the college accounting and financial management systems, including
    the development, coordination and implementation of financial policies.
  • Prepare and monitor budgets in accordance with government policy, the college’s goals and
    objectives, and priorities set by the Board.
  • Ensure that adequate controls are implemented, and that documentation is approved and
    available such that all purchases may pass independent and governmental audits.
  • Develop and maintain systems of internal controls to safeguard financial assets of the
    organization and oversee federal and other awards and programs.
  • Coordinate the activities of independent and Federal auditors ensuring all audit issues are
    resolved.
  • Prepare the annual financial statements in accordance with international accounting
    standards and federal, state and other required supplementary schedules and information.
  • Prepare deadline sensitive reports, surveys, resolutions and documentation for the Board of
    Governors.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the inventory of all fixed assets, including assets purchased with
    government funds ensuring all are in accordance with regulations.
  • Oversee student financial services and treasury-related functions (e.g. cashiering collections,
    receivables and payables, cash management, and banking relationships).
  • Supervise the development, implementation and continuous monitoring of the college’s
    annual budget.
  • Manage internal funds and oversee externally managed funds, credit lines, and other
    elements of overall external financing strategies.
  • Identify, promote and lead strategies for revenue generation.
  • Spearhead the preparation of accurate monthly financial statements and disclosures for
    internal and/or external users in accordance with legal requirements.
  • Continuously improve accounting systems and procedures so that accounting records provide
    accurate and timely information in accordance with generally accepted accounting
    principles.
  • Oversee the procurement process and contract monitoring activities.
  • Implement and maintain appropriate internal controls and compliance through the Conflict-
    of-Interest disclosure process.
  • Coordinate the activities of the external auditors, all year-end accounting functions and
    preparation of the trial balance and audit schedules.
  • Foster a culture of philanthropy and ensure that fund development is executed in keeping
    with the organization’s values, vision, and mission.
    Education/Experience Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting or a related field.
  • An MBA or Masters in Finance or Accounting is preferred.
  • A Certified Public Accountant or other comparable designation
  • A minimum of five years progressive leadership in corporate or higher education
    accounting.
  • Outstanding analytical abilities to drive fact–based decision making.
  • Strong people-relations skills, with the ability to relate to all levels of staff within the
    College, the community and the Board of Governors.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Highly developed organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated budgeting skills.
  • Proven track record of success facilitating progressive institutional change and
    development within a growing organization.
    Organizational Relationships:
    The VPFAA reports directly to the President and works closely with the Executive and Finance
    Committee of the Board. He or she is a member of the administrative team, who supervises and
    develops members of the finance and administrative staff including accounting, treasury
    management and student financial services.
