Taipei, Republic of China (Taiwan), (March 17, 2025)– A delegation from Saint Kitts and Nevis, led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs starts a week-long visit to Taiwan by meeting with scholarship students in Taipei.
On Monday, March 17, 2025, Taiwan’s Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister, Chen Ming-chi, greeted the Rt. Hon. Dr Denzil L. Douglas, Minister of Foreign Affairs et. al, and his delegation of five upon arrival at the Taoyuan International Airport at the start of an official visit on matters related to investment, industrial development and the energy sector.
The delegation prioritized engaging with nationals studying in Taiwan at a meeting held at the Embassy of Saint Kitts and Nevis. Students pursuing Mandarin studies, undergraduate and post graduate studies came to meet the delegation.
His Excellency Donya L. Francis thanked the delegation and students alike for attending the meeting, which he believes is critically important for bridging the gap between furthering studies abroad and returning home to join the work force.
“Take this opportunity to dialogue with our delegation, seek advice and make connections that can enrich you and help you to carve out a clear path towards returning home and building a prosperous life and career,” said Ambassador Francis to the students in attendance.
Following the meeting, the delegation visited the offices of the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development fund (ICDF), an organization that has been instrumental in establishing initiatives that aid in the development of Saint Kitts and Nevis.
Senior Government Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas gave brief remarks on the importance of the trip. He noted that the upcoming investment seminar will open doors for more Taiwanese private investors to play a pivotal role in propelling Saint Kitts and Nevis towards its sustainable island state agenda.
The delegation includes Ms. Kaye Bass, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Adina Richards, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Economic Development, Mr. Sean Lawrence, Director in the Ministry of International Trade, Mr. Jonathan Kelly, Energy Transition Manager at the Saint Kitts Electricity Company (SKELEC) and Mr. Trevor Blake, President of the Saint Kitts and Nevis Chamber of Industry & Commerce.
On Tuesday, the delegation will make presentations at the 2025 Saint Kitts and Nevis Trade & Investment Promotion Seminar. This event will be the first of its kind, for any nation, being held under the leadership of Taiwan’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Lin Chia-Lung, as he promotes economic diplomacy.
