Basseterre, St. Kitts, 21 July, 2025 – The Department of Environment (D.O.E) in
St. Kitts successfully hosted its first-ever D.O.E Fun Day on Friday, July 18, 2025, at
Frigate Bay. This event, originally planned as part of the Department’s Month of
Activities, brought together staff members for a day filled with friendly competition,
team-building, and a focus on environmental advocacy.

Staff members competed as Team Green and Team Blue, participating in a series of
challenges aimed at promoting team cohesion, personal development, and
camaraderie. The lively atmosphere was characterized by laughter, teamwork, and a
shared commitment to the department’s mission of environmental conservation and
enjoyment.

While the main goal was to strengthen workplace relationships, the D.O.E Fun Day
also served as an innovative platform to raise awareness about environmental
sustainability. Through interactive games and activities, such as the 60 and 100
meter dashes for sustainability, the “Lime and Spoon for Biodiversity” race, and the
sack race, participants reinforced the importance of protecting the natural resources
of St. Kitts and Nevis while embodying the principles of teamwork and collaboration.

Mrs. Colencia Levine, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Environment, briefly
attended the event and commended the initiative, stating, “Events like the D.O.E Fun
Day are essential for building a unified workforce while keeping environmental
stewardship at the forefront. When our teams are strong, our efforts to preserve and
sustain our environment become even more effective.”

The success of the inaugural Fun Day has set a positive precedent for future team-
building exercises within the department. Staff members expressed enthusiasm for
similar events in the future, highlighting how the day strengthened their bonds and
rejuvenated their commitment to environmental causes.
As the department continues its work to safeguard the federation’s ecosystems,
initiatives like the D.O.E Fun Day will remain a key part of fostering a united,
motivated, and environmentally conscious team.
